Welcome to the Middle Years Journey Book Club
Now that summer is approaching, I’m hoping to get in some much-needed reading time! I usually listen to my books on audio while driving, or at work while I’m plugging away. This summer, I am determined to read at least 1 book per month. Keyword: determined.
Generally, when looking for books, I go to Barnes & Noble to look them over, go home and order them on Amazon (I don’t pay that high price for Prime for nothing), go to my local library (yes, those still exist), or used bookstores (those are few and far between). Recently, I stumbled upon an awesome website www.bookfinder.com. You simply type the author or keyword, and it will connect you with online booksellers.
A lot of the books on my shelves are used. There’s an upside and a downside to this. The upside: I can get them for as little as $1.50, I’ve never paid more than $10.00 for my books, and you can find such a great assortment of little-known authors and titles. The downside: Some of these books are no longer in print. That’s a small price to pay to be able to find something that you are interested in.
Some of the books that I will recommend for The Middle Years Journey Book Club will be out of print, but somewhat easy to find. If I suggest something that you are interested in, feel free to comment or drop me an email and I will help you locate it.
Without further ado, here are my June Book Club Selections:
A New Model; What Confidence, Beauty & Power Really Look Like, Ashley Graham – I have been an admirer of Ashley Graham for quite some time. Being a “plus sized” woman myself, I longed to see more representation in print and TV ads. Then “IT” happened, Ashley, graced the cover of Sports Illustrated. In checking out Lane Bryant’s latest sale, I came across the ad for this book and had to get it. This will make for a great beach read! In my “plus sized” swimsuit and all!!
The Confident Woman Start Today Living Boldly Without Fear, Joyce Meyer – Joyce Meyer is a well-known Christian author and speaker. She has penned over 25 books about spirituality, finding inner peace, and self-fulfillment and growth. In this book, she discusses having confidence in our choices and lives and living boldly without fear. Very good lessons to learn!
Big Magic, Elizabeth Gilbert – This book was included in my March Sparkle Hustle Grow subscription box, and had been on my wish list for months. Elizabeth Gilbert is also the author of the book turned movie “Eat, Pray, Love”. In Big Magic, she talks about living a “creative” life, and the importance of not letting fear take over.
Big Girl: How I gave up dieting & got a life, Kelsey Miller – This book follows Kelsey though her personal transformation. Coming to the realization that something needed to change in her life, she gave up on the crash diets, dysfunctional family members, food and image issues, to become a better person. This is something that I believe have ALL encountered in our lifetimes.
I hope you find some of these titles of interest! If you have read any of these or want to, drop me a line and let me know what you think!
Also, if YOU have any suggestions for the MYJ Book Club, I’ll all ears!!
Until next time,
Crystal
I got Big Magic as well haven’t been able to read it yet but it’s definitely happening soon 🙂 interesting list of books to read!
Hi Zineb! Thanks for stopping by! Please keep me posted on how you enjoyed Big Magic!
Sharing this but I love that you do these round up’s. I am always looking for something to read and somehow get stuck all too often in the kindle sample chapters and then overthink whether or not to buy the rest of the book!
Thank you, Carla! I can totally relate to you on that! You will not believe how many “sample” books I have on my Kindle. I rarely do back and order them. LOL
Great tip on bookfinder….I live in a household of obsessive readers & just had a son asking, do we have “the Great Gatsby.” Now I know where to send him after he’s searched our bookshelves.
You are welcome, Dianna!!! Bookfinder is great! I can spend a good hour on that website (same as when I troll the bookstores). The last order I placed, I bought 6 books, including shipping, my total was only $31.00. You can’t beat that!!!
I am an avid reader, but reading has been falling by the wayside for me, as well. I am also determined to spend more time reading this summer. I love that you included books that are full of positivity and self-love. Even better, I have not read any of them. I am the most curious about the Elizabeth Gilbert book because I absolutely adore Eat, Pray, Love. I will stop by after I read it to compare notes!
Hi Brittany! I am the same! I have always been an avid reader, and I hate the fact that I don’t have as much time to devote to reading as I used to. Audible has become a staple for me. That way, I can listen in the car or at work. They have great selections as well. Thank you so much for commenting! Let me know what you thought of this month’s selections!!
I love, love, love big magic. It’s so good! She also has a podcast out that is based on the book called Magic Lessons that is awesome!
I saw that podcast, Corey! I am going to check it out. My podcast list is growing! So many good ones out there that I need to catch up on. I also listened to the book in audio and Elizabeth did a great job with the narration. It was awsome hearing her words spoken in her voice!
