You’d be surprised what we tend to forget over time regarding grammar. Autocorrect and spell check has created a “dumbing down” syndrome.  People don’t have to know how to spell anymore.  We continue typing, and our computers or phones correct all our grammatical errors.

Writing in 2018 is a far cry from writing in the 70’s and 80’s. We wrote book reports and essays by hand. If you messed up, you either erased the entire line or paragraph or balled up your paper and threw it in the trash.  In the 70’s we had to learn cursive and sentence structure on that crappy thin paper.  Remember that? Erasing it was a nightmare; too hard and you’d rub a hole in the paper. The days of hand cramps and sales of the number #2 pencils have gone by the waist side.  Now we have geniuses that create programs to help us become better writers and spellers.  Thank Goodness for those magical wizards behind the scenes.

While embarking on my blog journey, I came across a program called Grammarly.  It is indeed a lifesaver for me.  It’s simple to use and worth every penny.

What is Grammarly?

Grammarly is a writing assistant tool that not only corrects your spelling but also the most common (and not so common) grammatical mistakes we tend to make.  It also gives you reasoning behind why your contraction isn’t correct, or why you used the word “fantastic” too many times.  I have to admit I used to love English classes, but for the life of me can’t remember the difference between a subject and a predicate, or what in the heck is an antonym??  Is this what happens in midlife?

If you read my blog post about grad gifts under 50.00, I listed Grammarly as one of my picks. It’s perfect for writers, bloggers, and students.  My Daughter is going to order it to help with her college classes.

How does Grammarly Work?

Grammarly has two plans: Free and Premium.

Grammarly Free vs. Premium Plan
Grammarly Free vs. Premium Plan

*Free plan  –  The free plan will help you correct over 150 common spelling and grammatical mistakes.  It will also make suggestions to replace overused words and subject-verb agreement.

* Premium –This plan is a pot of gold.  The Premium plan helps with grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and writing style.  It also gives in-depth information on grammar rules.  It also has a plagiarism checker that will search your work against 15 + billion webpage libraries to ensure you aren’t publishing borrowed content.  This checker is a plus for students and bloggers.

With Grammarly, you have the option to add it as an extension to both your PC and MAC and will spell check any program you are using including Facebook.  You will also receive a weekly email that outlines your writing streak stats, productivity, mastery, and vocabulary.

Here is an example of Grammarly in action:

How Much Is It?

There are several payment options for the Premium plan.  I started with the Quarterly plan and have since purchased the annual plan.  I think the cost is extremely affordable, especially for College students.
