If you weren’t able to see The Book Club Movie in theaters, now is your chance. This hilarious movie starring Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, Candice Bergen, and Mary Steenburgen will be released on Blu-ray tomorrow 8/28/18! The Book Club follows four friends (all over the age of 50) as they try to “rediscover” themselves. Wanting to bring some much-needed spice in their lives, they decide to read “50 Shades of Grey”. Each of the women
*The recent widower whose adult daughters treat her with so much pity it is disgusting. I wanted to slap the crap out of them!
*A housewife who wants to spice up her marriage as she feels she and her husband are disconnected
*A successful entrepreneur who doesn’t feel as though she needs a relationship to feel complete, and would rather have “relations” with no attachments
*A Federal judge who has not been with a man since her divorce (18 years ago) who must come to terms with her loneliness, especially after discovering her ex-husband recently got engaged to a “young tart.”
The thing I loved most about The Book Club is that each character is so relatable. They are strong women, with an even stronger friendship. They love and support one another with no judgment. That is something that many midlife women crave. While watching, I was thankful for my “midlife tribe” and realized (as if I didn’t before) how grateful I am to have such strong women in my life.
I applaud Transmission Films and Paramount Pictures for making such a great movie where the main characters are 50 and over. The film proved that just because you are in midlife, your life ISN’T over. Midlife women (and men) still have hopes, desires, and dreams. Life doesn’t end when your spouse passes away, you get divorced, or your kids leave the nest. It was so refreshing to see midlife women portrayed in a positive light, rather than depressed spinsters with nothing going for them!
There are excellent reviews out there for The Book Club, and there are also some bad. The good reviews are from those who “get it.” They understand the characters and their plights. The bad reviews are mostly from people who couldn’t connect with the story. That is understandable, the same would be for me if I went to the next Marvel Comic movie. I wish the film didn’t disappear from theaters and more women would have had the chance to enjoy it. It was the perfect movie for a girls night out. Doing so reaffirms my thought that the midlife population is such an underrepresented demographic when it comes to entertainment (movies, TV, etc.) Hopefully, that will change with the success of The Book Club. I can only hope I am as sassy, energetic, and sexy as Jane, Diane, Candice, and Mary are at their ages!!!! #GOALS
Paramount Pictures contacted me and offered a movie night kit! It contained The Blue Ray copy of the movie, wine glasses, a box of chocolates, and coasters with lines from the film. I invited my “Midlife Tribe” over to watch it. A few of us had seen it when it came out, and we were excited to see it again. We had a potluck, wine, and delicious dessert (Thank you, Peggy, for your delicious homemade pies lol). It was the perfect “Girls Night In!” We are considering starting our very own book club! (minus Christian Grey LOL)
Buy The Book Club movie! I think you’re going to love it! If you do watch it, let me know what you think!!
Until Next Time…..Crystal
I haven’t seen the movie but I am so glad it showed that you can still reach your dreams after 50 years of age.
I feel like society places pressure on us with age and what success should look like at a certain space in our lives.
Thank you for highlighting this movie
I still haven’t seen the movie as it went out of the theater so quickly. But now that it’s out, I’m definitely going to enjoy it. I like the idea of having a girl’s night in to see it.
Let me know what you think about the film! Girls nights are always fun!!!
